Dec 06, · I've noticed my PS4 never automatically downloads updates for any of my applications while its in rest mode. Once i turn it on it starts downloading anything that needs update & i could then continue to put it back into to rest mode to download faster but it never starts a download on its own while in rest mode & it sucks because i always expect to wake up with all updates already installed. Then select Power > Enter Rest Mode. updates won't download until the disc is done installing and discs don't install in rest mode so the disc likely isn't fully installed yet and every time it goes in to rest mode it's stopping the progress I mean, the update started downloading. I waited initially for it to "copy the application" and then the update started downloading immediately.

Check and make sure your ps4 is set to primary. The fix came after disconnecting and reconnecting my hard drive while the unit was off. Now everything updates when it should. Strange, but it did the trick for me.
It also fixed an issue I was having with my fan running and console staying warm in standby. I believe game updates will only auto-download during rest mode, if the PS4 has been resting for a certain amount of time. Well what time exactly? Because it NEVER downloads any updates on its own, i always leave it in rest mode over night whenever i anticipate an update but it never works! A couple times I'v started my ps4 up around 6am CST and it shows xxxxx downloaded hrs ago. While in rest mode the PS4 only checks for game and system updates once during a day and it's very early in the morning for the US. I'm pretty sure it's gotta be at least 24 hours of standby, before it'll happen. I remember reading about it on here, back when PS4 first came out. From what I've noticed, it only seems to auto-download updates if you leave it in rest mode for a day or so.

Maybe it's just a weird coincidence lol. I have zero answers, ps4 wont download in rest mode.
